Webalizer On-Line Web Site Statistics

What is Webalizer
Webalizer compiles statistics regarding the traffic to your web site. If Webalizer is installed for your account, a statistical report for your site's traffic will be created every day at 1:30am (Eastern). You can view the report (and history) with a web browser.

How do I know whether or not Webalizer is installed for my account?
The Welcome E-mail that you received when your Basic Web Hosting service was activated would have this information. If you no longer have a copy of your Welcome E-mail, you can access it on-line. Please see our Welcome E-mail Tutor.

In the Welcome E-mail, look in the Account Information section. At the bottom of this section there is a listing for Optional Settings. If "Daily Web Report" is listed, your account already has Webalizer installed. If "Daily Web Report" is not listed, then your account does not include the Webalizer.

How do I add Webalizer to my existing account?
Simply request that Webalizer be added by sending an e-mail to our Service & Support Team. Please see the contact information at the bottom of this page.

How to View Your Web Site's Stats
To view the statistical reports for your web site, use the following URL:

http://www.your-domain.com/stats

You will be prompted for your site's username and password.

How to Remove the Password Protection for your Webalizer Reports
You can remove the password protection from your Webalizer reports if you like. Simply do the following:

FTP to your site
Move into the /log directory
Move into the /stats directory
Find the .htaccess file
Rename the file to htaccess.old

You can re-instate the password protection at any time by renaming the htaccess.old file back to .htaccess.

Customizing the Statistical Report Display
You can customize the way Webalizer displays your statistical reports. For example, you can set the number of countries that should be listed, how the browser information is shown, etc. To make changes, you need to edit the webalizer.conf file located in the /etc directory of your site. All available settings and features are documented in the webalizer.conf file. To customize the Webalizer reports, please follow these steps:

FTP to your account
Move into the /etc directory
Find the webalizer.conf file
Download that file to your computer
Open the webalizer.conf file with a text editor
Make your changes and save the file
DO NOT CHANGE the LogFile or OutputDir settings
Upload the file back to the /etc directory of your site
BE SURE to upload the file in ASCII mode (not binary mode)

Making Sense of Webalizer's Reports
The reports that Webalizer creates are complex and can easily be confusing. Webalizer is not a product of EsoSoft and at times even we are confused by the data. Fortunately, the author of Webalizer has a "Quick Help" page that is very helpful. You can find that Quick Help information at:

http://www.mrunix.net/webalizer/webalizer_help.html

Technical Information
Webalizer supports the incremental processing of web log files. Therefore you will see complete statistics for one month. After one month, Webalizer starts with a new month, however the HTML page for the previous month will be kept. Therefore, you can see how the visitors and hits to your web site increase from month to month.
